Mike qualified as a solicitor in 1981. Following qualification, Mike initially went into practice in the commercial property world in the North West of England. He relocated to Towcester shortly thereafter in 1982. Mike Thomson became a Partner in the renowned law firm, Shoosmiths & Harrison in 1986. He remained a partner at the firm until 1990 when he co-founded Arnold Thomson with his former partner, James Arnold in 1990. Mike has since dedicated his career to Agricultural Law, Rural Business as well as private clients.

With his wealth of experience, knowledge and profound appreciation of clients’ needs, Mike leads the team as Director at Arnold Thomson. In particular, he is the head of the Agriculture and Rural Business team as well as the Wills, Probate, Estate Administration, Tax and Trust team. Agricultural, Property - Matt Hawkins

Matt Hawkins is the epitome of hard work and tenacity. Matt joined the Firm in the capacity of a Trainee Solicitor in 2002. He became a qualified solicitor in April 2004. With his determined, robust and proactive approach, Matt worked his way up the ranks to the well-earned position of Director in 2007.

Matt’s particular interest lies in property matters affecting landowners and farmers with specific focus on farms, estate sales and purchases, agricultural tenancies, development land sales (including promotion and option agreements), re-mortgages and intra-family transfers. He has comprehensive knowledge of the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and Environmental Stewardship. Matt also provides inheritance tax planning advice to his clients, especially in relation to Agricultural Property Relief, Business Property Relief and general succession planning.
