Pegasus Group has significant experience in providing planning and environmental advice for the provision of a range of renewable energy projects upon an agricultural enterprise, or within a rural area. Projects include a 15MW biomass power plant that utilises straw and other crops as its fuel source. Pegasus Group provided lead planning, landscape and environmental consultancy which included an initial feasibility assessment, public consultation and preparation and submission of a planning application and accompanying EIA. Recent successes also include a solar farm extension in Branston, near Lincoln, delivering 49.9MW of solar energy from a site covering 97 ha of land and generating energy to power 15,000 homes. Pegasus Group managed the entire process, providing Planning, Heritage, Landscape, Minerals, Design and Consultation services. The formal application included a detailed landscape and ecological masterplan accounting for the potential presence of ground nesting birds in the area. The scheme was approved unopposed, reflecting not only its viability but and suitability of site, but also the depth of work carried out in respect of consultation. Another recent scheme saw Pegasus Group win planning permission for the first UK site utilising a new waste concept. The biogas facility on land in the Flintshire Enterprise Zone is set to handle up to 182,000 tonnes of rubbish a year, producing up to two megawatts of green energy, while bringing huge investment to the region.
