GOOD NEWS IN DIFFICULT TIMES

6th June 2020

I am very pleased to bring you some positive news in these uneasy times. I firmly believe that there will be more such news.

FIGHT WITH COVID-19 AND KEEPING THE PRODUCTION PLAN

We were one of the first companies to introduce safety rules to protect our employees and regulations for the movement of visitors inside our premises and buildings at the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. There has been a decrease in the production, or human capacities, due to the internal as well as government measures.

In spite of the unpleasant situation we face every day, or maybe thanks to it, we started preparing for the launch of the new hall operation. The motivation was clear – to keep the required production capacity despite the unfavourable situation.

We use modern technology, workstation equipment and modern work methods in our new hall as a key to achieve the objective. We aim at increasing efficiency and performance with a significantly lower need for human resources.

THE LAST STEPS TO LAUNCH OPERATION

During the two weeks since the acceptance of the new hall, we managed to gradually transfer and complete the equipment of all assembly workstations, offices and facilities for the workers, to supply the individual workstations with material, to train employees in new technologies and methods of work, all of that while maintaining regular operation.

Everything we had been preparing for in more than a year and a half is becoming reality. I am pleased to inform you that the operation of the new assembly hall, and I dare to say also a new chapter in the BEDNAR history, was officially launched on 30 March. However, our work is far from done yet. The new hall is designed to allow for a higher level of automation in the future. We will continue fulfilling our tasks and other visions related to increasing efficiency, improving organization and installing new technologies.

NEW POSSIBILITIES AND PLANS IN THE PRODUCTION

We now use 10,000 mof the assembly area, out of the total 12,000 m2. Out of that, 2,000 m2 is used for administration purposes. That’s double the area we have had available until now. This “playground” enables us to better divide the individual tasks of the transfer (line) assembly into the individual operations.

The hall is designed as two-storey (5,000 m2/storey) with a clear division of tasks. All the pre-assembly operations, i.e., the assembly of subassemblies, take place on the top floor. The subassemblies are then completed on the ground floor – it includes the final assembly of the machine, final inspection and palletization, if required.

There are 29 workstations concentrated in 5 lines with the same total number of cranes of various load capacity on both storeys.

LOGISTICS IN THE NEW HALL

The parts from the paint shop are delivered via an automated conveyor through an assembly point in the basement area of the paint shop and then by two automated sublevel vertical conveyor that overcome the height of 15 m into the controlled buffer zones on the top floor of the new assembly hall. The parts that do not require preassembly are delivered from the assembly point straight to the ground-floor lines. This prevents damage to the paintwork caused by transport or storage on pallets. Small material is provided by two automated vertical storage rooms with a height of 15 m and delivery points on both storeys. This takes care not only of storage of the parts, but also their sublevel transport.

Larger parts that do not go through the paint shop are delivered using two vertical platforms with a load capacity of 8 tonnes and dimensions of 3.75 × 7.5 m. They overcome a height of 8.7 metres. They are also used for sublevel transport of prefabricated subassemblies from the top floor to the main lines on the ground floor.

BETTER ERGONOMICS AND EQUIPMENT FOR EASIER WORK

In addition to the logistics, we also aim at improving in the area of the ergonomics of the individual workstations and their equipment. We have been following our own path in this area for a long time and we strive to make work as easy as possible, whether it concerns smart tools, information technologies, jigs or small things such as lighting or sprung floors.

THE DISPATCH HALL HAS ALSO STARTED ITS OPERATION

In addition to launching the operation in the new assembly hall, we also commenced operation in the new dispatch hall. This investment allows us to load one machine while preparing another one for shipping inside the hall. Also, we have expanded the paved outdoor area for machine loading used by fork-lift trucks, or loading platforms.

The dispatching capacity used to be one of the bottleneck areas we had to deal with especially in the time of shipping machines for spring operations.

CURRENT EVENTS AND FUTURE PLANS

We are planning to expand the premises with a truck car park with bathrooms and with the construction of the main gate and a connecting lane from the main road, which will be implemented in the upcoming second stage.

However, much more has been happening and I am pleased to inform you that we also started working on the reconstruction of Hall A on 6 April, where a new semiautomatic warehouse will be erected in three months.

We will inform you of the progress of the construction works and other details in the following press release.
